i really enjoyed its sound which paired well with my arcam sa30. In the journey of stereo listening, i incidentally purchased a pair of atc scm11 v2 and i decided this will be my last speaker. so this will be my last speakers.(till i get another better speakers. still the low frequency impact lacked and as the mids n highs became more sparkling, i added dual REL t9i s and completed the setup. my decision that scm11 is my last speaker broken and i upgraded to scm19 v2. mids became so smooth refined and the details improved.i was so impressed and never felt to give back the speakers. as soon as i started playing, instantly i could hear the difference. i never expected there will be any significant improvement. i never thought about any upgrade until my friend who is also a member here, informed me that a pair of scm19 v2 is available and if i want i can take it for a demo at my home. As days passed i adapted to its sound and was living happily. i initially found the speakers lack a bit of bass, i can hear it but i felt the impact is less. Glad I took his honest advice too, it's a great combo. In the journey of stereo listening, i incidentally purchased a pair of atc scm11 v2 and i decided this will be my last speaker. Odd that he would confirm to me the suitability of the Elex r despite knowing from the beginning he couldn't sell me one. ![]() ![]() So when I decided great, I'll take one please, he informed that he couldn't ship Rega overseas so couldn't personally sell me an Elex r. He suggested it would be perfectly capable as he has done in this thread. I contacted Rick again after a couple of months enquiring about a Rega Elex r and whether or not he thought it suitable for the SCM 11s. A couple of weeks after receiving them one of the speakers developed a small cosmetic issue and I couldn't have been looked after better by Rick and ATC and the problem was rectified immediately, all shipping expenses covered. There was no sales push of any kind, just solid advice and opinion about the SCM11s that I wanted to buy. ![]() I purchased my ATCs from Rick after shopping around and couldn't have asked for a more pleasant and professional experience. Has What Hi Fi got it wrong in their choice of amplifier or does the Rega Elex R amplifier have 'special' watts like the Naim amplifiers, is there a secret 'transient power' that enables the amplifier to drive more difficult loads? Can someone please advise me as I am interested in the amplifier. One review of these speakers suggested that the ATC SCM11 should be powered at least by 100 watt amplifier in order to drive the speakers properly. To my suprise the power out put for the amplifier was 72.5 watts per channel into 8 ohm and the recommended power amplifier for the speakers was 75 - 300 watts (quoted sensitivity 85d). I looked up the Rega Elex R amplifier specifications and ATC SCM 11 specifications. The same article recommended or suggested this 'System Builder' which included Rega Elex R amplifier, Naim CD5si CD (its a fine CD heard it in a audition) and Custom Design Stands. In What HiFi November issue I read the Standmount Speaker group test ( average approx £1000- less or more) and the favourite winner (according to the article) was ATC SCM 11 speakers.
